If you decide to visit the Taipei Xiahai City God Temple, it’s also worth taking a stroll around the surrounding Dihua Street.

Dating back to the 1850s, the street is one of the oldest commercial centers in Taipei and is home to an assortment of stores selling everything from Chinese medicines, herbs, and dried foods to spices, teas, incense, and other traditional dry goods. It also features a number of interesting old buildings in a mixture of Fujian, Japanese Colonial, and other styles, many of which have been recently restored.

But with its colorful shops and traditional architecture, it does provide a fascinating glimpse of traditional city life.
